Ron when you have your new book it has the directions, it is not hard at all compared to a straight diamond plait...I'm liking the way it looks so far. Just need to decide what kind of handle to put on it!

Rachel, so far it's as straight as a snap line.
The silver almost looks white in the photo.
Deciding on a handle would be difficult for me.
I wonder what an ebony handle would look like?

Ebony would look gorgeous, but real ebony is not spectacular for a hard working whip because it has a tendency to store stress and release it all at once. If you stain ash, might I suggest a black leather dye, like Fiebings? It's what we use to make shims, plugs, etc match ebony fingerboards and fittings, and it looks really good depending on the texture of what you dye. If you want you can use a few coats of thin cyanoacrylate (superglue) in between sanding to make it look like the really expensive ebony grades.
