  Lightning Fast Cow Whip

Post by Roy Partin »

Just finished this pair of 5 footers for a customer. They have a short BB core with 10 plait belly and 12 plait overlay. He requested they end in a fall hitch instead of a twisted tail. He seemed very pleased in how they turned out, I posted a short video link below of him testing them out

Simple, nice and tidy. Very nice.

As far as the video shows, they seem to fly fast and straight. Looks like a lot of fun, I would really like to get my hands on a pair of these :)

Thanks everybody. They worked better for him than me. I took a pretty good lick to the back of the hand when I tried to get fast, which is something I've never tried before. I paid the price, but it looked like so much fun after watching him do it.

The whips look very good. The combination of that natural wood with the neon orange is innovative. I watched the video closely. Three times. And there is something I'm not sure, about. When he brings the whip forward underhanded, it kind of "chokes" on something. I know that this sounds strange, but here the language barrier hits me massive. Sorry... I think that the handle is too long just a little bit, or the thong should be a bit longer. Don't get me wrong - I think the whip is absolutely well made. It just doesn't have the perfect balance for that (in my opinion) way too hectic and fast cracking. I can imagine that these whips would be great for general cracking. For that speed thing the thong maybe a bit to heavy, too. To be honest, I'm not a fan of this machine gun style. It misses every elegance and has no finesse at all. But - again - that's my personal idea. And no whip maker is responsible for what the customer use their whips, for.

If anyone really wants to have a whip that sounds like a machine gun, I think a slightly flexible handle would do a good job. But that's not my cup of tea.

Roy - your whip looks really good. What the guy does with it, well...

Hey Roy the two whips are beautiful. They crack very well from the video and I'm like you with the fast cracking. Every time I try to throw a whip around to fast I pay for it. Very nice work on the whips though. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks, and yes Robby I agree that's his passion not mine. I also agree that the thong needed to be longer but he demanded 5 feet. I tried to thin the thong but ended up with 4 whips in the trash can last week because they wouldn't work how I wanted them to. I built these for him to try with conditions that if he wasn't happy I would build another pair no questions asked and no payment required. One thing I'm thinking is they need a very good break in. I plaited 4,5 and 6 fairly tight. Once he spends some time with them I'm hoping they limber up.

Very nicely made. I don't know much about weighting and the technical stuff, but as far as my knowledge goes. They look beautiful.

Hi Roy:
Nice whips!
Good to hear that I am not the only "ham hand" that can't do the fast stuff!
