The 10/10 Challenge

At the request of the members, the 10/10 challenge has its own section now. Every 10 days a new thread will be opened for that particular exercise.

Not sure Tristan, I was making a teeny 3.5 bull for that but it looks like its going to a friend if she likes it.

Yup your right Ben, I will continue on that crack but do the next one too.

Guys I'm sorry but things are pretty hectic just now , I don't want to come here making excuses each day so I'm going to restart this once its calmed down abit shouldn't be long

Tristan, that same cold front finally is coming through here and the wind is very strong and cold.

Short whips and I do not get along. It needs too much energy to get them to do anything.

Looks like another stick day for me.

Got in a nice long session today. I brought my gear to make some video, but found out the zipties I have are too short, so I need to just go and get some rubber bands, I guess.

It was way cold, and I think that my hands were uncomfortable affected my performance (I haven't tried cracking with gloves, but I like the feel of the handle against my hand) but in addition to working on the 4-crack routine, I was starting to a nice feel for how to hold the handle for the FC. At least I think how to hold it, in that I hold it loosely, like with the reverse horizontal crack, and let the whip carry everything forward and snap a crack off, rather than trying to use the handle as a lever I pull.

With the 4-crack routine, I can do all of them separately and the two crack routines aren't any problem (I still need to stabilize my HC, however) but knitting them all together is still proving to be very stilted.

That sounds very encouraging, Tristan! As for knitting everything together, I'm sure that will come - with time and patience....

Hey fellas, I've had a bit of practice over the past few days. No videos yet. Maybe once the weather is better here.

10 minutes today, or so. I actually got some videos done, but the light was so crappy they aren't worth posting.

I have to say, I was discouraged to see that my HC is still all wonky and definitely not horizontal. It all feels flat when go through the motions. :-(

Today was the first time to be able to practice combo 4, since forever.
It's really rough. I can try to blame a lot of it on a super wimpy whip but
that only goes so far. So the main culprit is me.
Practice makes (almost) perfect and I need a lot more of it. :)

Ron ,even tough you haven't been able to practice with a whip recently, your combo #4 looks very, very good - congratulations :) !!!

I'm still struggeling with combo #4 but it's slowly getting better - I especialy had problems with the opposite horizontal crack and therfore practiced it seperatly to warm up for this combo.
It seems to have paid of a little :)

Happy cracking everyone !!!

Ben, it seems that, in the combo, one will crack and the one right after it will only "poof" but the one after the "poof" will crack.
It's puzzling to say the least. But we'll get it.

We will Ron, we will !!!

I haven't shoot a video of todays (final) practice but I will continue to practice this combo and shoot a video of my practice.
I don't own a copy of Whip Basics Vol. 2 but if the order is the same as in the Youtube preview videos than the next technique will probably be the slow figure 8.

Merry Christmas everyone !!!

All the best

I think you're right Ben.
The slow figure eight it is.
It's a little rainy here today so I too could not produce a video for the final day of Combo 4.

Perhaps the slow figure eight might best be started on Monday the 26th depending on the weather where you live. The ending for the slow figure eight will be Jan. the 4th.

But feel free to practice when ever you can. After all that's what this exercise is all about, getting us to practice as much as possible.

We are all doing a fantastic job and I must admit my skills have improved. I feel more comfortable and with more confidence than I had when we began. My form still needs a lot of work, but again that's what it's all about.

Kudos every one.:)

The sky cleared so here's the comparison video.
I started out with "Blue" . It's super heavy as you can probably tell.
I'm not sure about the improvement because it was one of those days.
But over all I have a better understanding of it all.

I apologize for not having come into this thread. I just looked at Combo 4, and without realizing it, it's a combo I do a lot in my normal cracking, so that's good.

Welcome Jesse. It's never too late.
We will be starting the slow figure eight crack on Mon. the 26th so feel free to join in and practice with us.

It doesn't matter about skill levels. It's for every one, to encourage practicing every day for 10 min. and do the current crack we are learning and trying to improve our overall skills with that crack.

We are using Robby's "Whip Basics" DVDs as a base and we are going to start Vol.II on Monday. You can see samples of this on YouTube in the Whip Basics channel.

Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Again welcome aboard. :)

Ron, that's a cheery thing to see on Christmas Eve - not least because of your warm sunshine!

t's been such a joy watching your progress - and that of the others! I much look forward to your assault on WB Volume II. :)

Mr. Robert, it was such a nice surprise to see sunshine today. I totally did not expect it at all.
I thank you and wanting to be able to take the group forward I ordered the Vol.II DVD just a few minutes ago.

I am so excited to be able to advance my skills using Robby's techniques since they fit my own desired style so well.

Hey everyone. I've been quiet for the past few days because I simply have been too busy. I just got to my hometown in Nebraska yesterday. I may have to take a break from this until I get back to Texas next week.

Well, 10/10 Practice Challenge whipsters, here's day 1's practice on the slow figure eight crack.

https://youtu.be/PLCDvakfcyk

I need to make a better whip to practice with that's for sure.
Even though this one, whip #1, cracks well enough I'm afraid I might develop bad habits using it to accommodate it's slack and totally noodle construction.
Any way, I'm trying to go slow and use as little force and velocity as possible.
