I get you. I'm trying to find an example of the method I am thinking of. You would not be able to carry the pattern for the whole length of the whip though.

I''l get back to you later. When I've found what I'm looking for.

Great looking handles! Are you thinking of something like a Japanese sword handle wrap for it? That's what I got from the picture, at least.

Thanks Matt!
No wraps, I am just thinking is it possible to have two solid lines thru the overlay so that the blue lines cross each other thus looking like Finish flag.

Jyri, use the fancy plaiting generator and see if you can work it out.

Ok, I did not realize you were trying for a Finland flag look. In that case, I would use the pattern generator to make a cross in the middle of a wide ring. Like the white ones on this whip, though much wider.

Ron I have tryed it, but it didn't really help me. :/

Thanks Ethan!
I may have to try it again or just use some scrap paracord and try to figure it out that way.

Sorry, I meant to say:
Maybe something like this rough sketch:

The flag area would be all white, except the cross of course. And the wide lines loosely represent the seams of the basic herringbone.
I would try it on the plait generator but I am using an old computer and cannot figure out how to take screen shots. I'll see if I can later.

Ethan I have the handle portion figured out but its the herringbone section that I'm thinking.

Here we go, maybe something like this?

Ethan I tryed many many ways to form blue crosses but none of them looked quite so appealing.
But if you can figure out how to form two, solid lines of blue 2strands thick each wich are spiralling the whip in different directions in herringbone and forming that pattern i posted earlier i would be really relly happy

is it even possible?

Yes it is possible, but they would have strands crossing over them, similar to the pictures I gave earlier.

Damn. Well it has to be done that way then.
Thank you all for ideas and help!
I have to long bellyes worth of time to think about the overlay

Jyri, you might practice what you want to do on the bellies and when you get ready to do the overlay you might have it figured out then.
