You bet That was what happened when I tried my first wax experiment, the black lace shrunk badly. I haven't tried waxing anything with paracord on it yet, I would expect wave lace might behave a little differently though.

Some weeks ago (months?) Rachel sent Robby a cow whip. Robby reviewed it - but also made an alteration: he glued the thong into the cup, to prevent any play at that point while the whip was in flight. Rachel took his suggestion on board in a big way, and I asked her for one of these new models, Well, it's here!

Rachel calls this the 'Amper Style'. Mine is Number 002, because - although I ordered it very soon after Robby's review - it's his suggestion, after all, that led to this new design. So, if there's to be an 001, it should be his!

My whip has a 7-foot thing glued into a 14 inch handle. The wood used is very hard and heavy (heavier than Robby likes, as he prefers a more 'nose-heavy' whip). I still haven't quite discovered all this beauty will do, but it's magnificent! The rasp-carved handle is a real work of art; the balance of the thong seems perfect. It virtually cracks itself. In fact, I haven't once flicked it even lightly, and not made it crack! In a week or two, when I'm a bit more used to it, I'll report further.

(I paid for this just in time, too, before Brexit caused the Pound to drop sharply. It's still falling. I don't foresee any more American purchases unless things get better.)

PS - I should have said that these photos were taken by Rachel. Also, her communication is a perfect model of thoughtful courtesy!

Rachel, I'm interested in how you finish off your thongs. It looks like you're taking existing cords and then twisting them into a tapered final section to the fall hitch. My question is how do you create a fall hitch from the tapered section? It looks like your taking a 4-point end and then TT-ing them into the hitch. ???????????

7' 16 plait Acid Dark Brown waxed thong with two plaited bellies over a tight TT core ending in a 4 plait into a Twisted Taper tip, which is knotted, trimmed, and melted enough to keep from unraveling- fairly traditional cow whip end. The fall is a single strand of waxed paracord tied on in a Snelling knot variant. The fall is 14" if I remember right, with a tapered Dyneema cracker around 12" I believe.
The handle is handcut Cumaru in 14" length.

Roger, I hope that answers your question on the a fall hitch. If not I can take some closer pictures of the next one I do if you like. The 4 plait is paired then tucked into one another creating two strands to twist. It's tapered by cutting the strands you threaded inside to staggered lengths.
I learned that here from Roy, pictures of other cow whips, and several older ones I've had the opportunity to repair.
