Sebastian, I will need to find better material that absorbs more fuel, sleeving is absolutely useless, as I found out XD

Jesse, for snakewhips, you'd dunk the first half foot to foot in water before fueling up the whip, so you wouldn't be holding the fire (though you'd be close ;) )

ahaha I have a friend who particularly hates handles on whips, which is why really liked my thicker snake whips, and so I suggested, once I have a good design, to make him a fire snakewhip. To be honest, I doubt anyone else but him would want one :P

Brandon , not wanting handles is just something he's going to have to come to grips with.

Ron, that was an awful pun...

My youngest son does some fire stunts, including fire whip. A few years ago he bought a fire whip and followed my advice to get one that was made as a real whip, not just one floppy textile tube inside another. More expensive, but according to him well worth every penny extra. As I understood it, the fire whip needs a really good soak before the act. He used a large can and simply left the whip there while he prepared the act and did the other stunts. Then the fire whip finished the act.

Apparently hard to soak it too long, but easy to take it out too soon.

Interesting topic and congrats on finishing a fire whip!
I've been toying with the idea of making one myself one day.

This is from Einar Stephenson's website on his fire whip construction:

"...a first belly constructed from 100% Kevlar, then a nomex bolster. This is followed by a second plaited belly of 100% Kevlar, then a second nomex bolster and finally a fire wick overlay. "

Check it out for yourself:

Also on the subject a rather recent video of Adam Winrich on fire whip safety:

Thanks for the advice Lasse! Yeah, for that 100% kevlar whip, it's light, fast and really nice to crack, but doesn't soak fuel well. I'm wanting to make one with fibreglass woven into the wick, so that it soaks the fuel much better!~

Thanks Erik :)

Yeah, I'm not too keen on the HVBRIS whip myself, mainly because it looks SO bulky XD I love my huge fireballs, but I'm trying to make a whip that you could literally do whip cracking routines with :D Also it looks like their whip doesn't have the tapered stiffness I like :P

Thankfully, I'm quite well versed in fire safety thanks to my fire spinning experience ^_^ Actually funnily enough, I managed to do a fire body crack once - wrap my body with the whip, and crack as you unwrap!

Either way, once I get in contact with some nicer materials, I will definitely update everyone when I make my next fire whip~
