Looks like a secure and comfortable foundation Ron, well done. Good luck with the TH

Ron I forgot to ask, what exactly is the red cordage that you used for the foundation?

Roy, it's some mason's line I had laying around.
The tarred line that Rhett uses in his video would be better because it's kind of sticky and
won't let the strands slip so much.

Ron, i suppose some hockey tape over the foundation will add some stickiness as well. The glue seems to seep through to the top of the tape when i pull the strands tight over it.

Philbert, I just used some E6000 glue in between layers of mason line and when it all is finished and dried it becomes a very strong and solid foundation.
I also put some very small finishing nails ( 8) into the foundation to the inner layers of the whip to also secure it from moving around during cracking.

Ron, i meant to use the hockey tape to add some stickiness for the cord to grab on to the foundation better while tying the heel knot ass you mentioned that the mason line is not sticky like the tarred line.

Philbert, thanks .
I had to start over.... again.
First I had cut the strand too short. With one pass left to do I could see that I didn't have enough.
Then I also figured out that I needed a little larger diameter of foundation.
When I "ran out of cord" I also noticed that with only two passes done it looked damn near complete, hence the foundation was not quite large enough.
I am just about done with redoing the foundation to start the TH again.

Ron, hope second time's the charm. If you have issues with keeping the cords from twisting while doing the knot, try this Image pulling the cord in from the back.

The foundation is still giving me fits.
I am finding it difficult to determine the size of the foundation for a 6x7 3 pass TH.
Length and diameter.
It's been either too small diameter or the length was too long.
Is there a standard size to sort of go by ?
And is there a formula for finding the correct strand length to tie it with?

I know that it's not an exact science but there has to be a sort of general rule.... yes?

The thong is about the diameter of a quarter which I am going to try to use in the end of the TH.

Looking good Ron. I tried to use a Texas quarter on the end of my knot. Unfortunately it covered it up.

@ Ron May:

The knotfoundation that you have made looks very even and smooth-very good job Sir!!!

I have not done a 6 bight 7 part TH with three passes for a while but I use a knotfoundation with a lenght of one inch and a diameter of about one inch for 6 bight 7 part THs with two passes.
Therefore a knotfoundation for a 6 bight 7 part TH with three passes should be larger in size.
I will search through the notes that I took while whipmaking and will post more detailed measurements for a knotfoundation (for a 6-7 TH with three passes) as soon as I find them.

Greetings Ben

The only thing I could really tell you Ron, is that for me a finished knot in 6 x 7 is going to be about 37 mm diameter in 3 passes. I've never measured the foundation for that though- also, I usually tie my knots with paracord that still has the core inside so it might be different. I suggest you shoot for a 28 mm foundation and see where that leads.

Ben, thank you Sir.

Tyler, the existing diameter is about 1.482" (37mm ?) and on the third pass it was bunching up a lot.
The length is about 1.75" (44.45mm)
So, I was thinking it should probably be bigger.... ?

I tried a 4x5 3pass and it had gaps.

Ron , when you say existing diameter you mean of the foundation or the 6 x 7? Also, core in or core out on the cord? But yes, if it's bunching you can either increase the foundation or simplify the knot- i.e., a 7 x 4, or perhaps a 6 x 5.

Tyler , that's the diameter of the foundation.
I will have to research the 6x5 to find out how to do it.
Here's the 4x5 as an experiment . It's not tightened down yet and that would make the gaps bigger ?

Here's the top which can be adjusted some but not a whole lot.

It just doesn't look as good as a 6x7. Not as refined.
It sort of looks unfinished or cheap. (sort of)
