Wow Ron,
that whip is looking really good.
The binding is super tight and lots of it, and the overlay so far looks very tidy.
Very much looking forward to more pics and the finished whip, ...

@ Ron May:

I am very impressed by your work Sir!!!
Making such a precise checkerboard pattern on your second (!!!) whip is just incredible. I know I was not even close to beeing as good as you in whipmaking on my second whip and not on my thrid or fourth... If you look at the picture of my "barbers pole whip" in the Guestbook section, you will see that your checkerboard pattern is far more precice than mine on my fitfh whip!

Congratiolations Sir-extremely good work!!!

I am looking forward to see new pictures of your work,

greetings Ben.

The plaiting is going well, it just messes with my mind when I am dropping when the strands start trying to get crowded , backing up a few then dropping a strand.
Only dropping when the whip tells me to is jacking with my mind when I blow past a measured, scheduled drop.
The gentle taper is still there but I like my plans to be followed according well, to the plan. :)

Question: When dropping strands going from even to odd numbered strands, when it evens up again from the other side to even number of strands, does it really matter if you drop from the same side as the previous drop (to odd numbers) or can you drop from the alternate side since the strand count is the same on both sides at the point of drop ?

I always try to alternate those drops from side to side, if possible.
Right or wrong, I don't know :)

That whip is looking great.

Thanks Rachel.
I was thinking that when I dropped left first then right, the strands were even again.
So in stead of staying left then right, since the count is even dropping a strand from right then left.
I will probably stick to alternate sides but I was just curious.

I know what you mean about mildly stressing about dropping when the whip tells you rather than following your pre-build written plan. However, I tend to use drop point calculations as guides as opposed to rules. I've found that even when using a known build design, there will always be a few variations that creep in. Whether this means I've got to tidy up my build processes or actually consider it a more organic method, I don't know. :/

Roger, I am glad that I am not the only one who freaks a little about it.
I just have to trust what the strands are telling me.
Still , I am taking notes and maybe one day I can find a fair average of methodology.

I agree with Roger, i noticed that even thought we plan out where we want to do the drops and everything, it never works out exactly, as you need to have the strands for dropping in position.
