Is the handle bare wood? It might age nicely and darken with hand oils for an antique patina.

Ron
Ron the initial test in the garden got some good cracks :)
Yes just bare wood, the handle was actually covered in paint splashes so I gave it a sand down to clean it up, wasn't too fussed beyond that as it was a test whip that I will be keeping for myself.

I agree Mark.
Ross, you have raised the bar for your self.

Very nice, Ross!

To my eye, both handle and thong look slightly 'heavy' for a 5-foot stockwhip - but then I like heavy whips, and find some stockwhips far too light!

Robert the handle probably is a bit heavier than normal being a broom handle, for the thong I did my usual even taper which is probably not the 'done way' either. I think you would like the weight of this :)

Jyri besides the bit where the keeper attaches all I've done is sand them to clean them up :)

Ross, that's a very good pair and your two handed whipcracking video shows that they perform very good - my compliments to your work!

Jyri and Ben thank you :) I'm back to my Bullwhips now after this little experiment, I have to say two handed cracking is quite relaxing at the same time as being a good even workout :D

Whip number #23
This one was made for my sister in law's father. Its a 6ft whip with a stuffed core that's bound in artificial sinue with a 16 plait overlay. I used this whip as a test for a budget range, I gave it an initial crack and it doesn't take to much effort. I will give it a proper test when the weather clears up.

Ross, I'm looking forward to hear about your final test results.
The whip looks good, I realy like the skull in the heel knot!

Whip #24 this is the second whip for one customer (we love repeat orders :))
It's a 6ft 16 plait Bullwhip with 2 bellies and a tt core, fancy handle plait with a silver ferrule and a K in the heel knot.

She rolls out smoothly and cracks with ease :)
