Rachel - it dont know WHO, but when I see the start of a new handmade handle, and get an idea of how big the work actually is, I allmost want to own every single piece of handmade art, in-sted of that industrial manufactored crap inclusive whips, whereabouts the transition is only a stel wire.

Thanks Mark, I really look forward to seeing your work! If you must do by hand, at least the rough part, the farrier's rasp is the way to go. In a pinch I can do almost all my work with just that and sandpaper and drill for the hole.
Not all farrier's rasps are created equal, either! Mine are retired from their first job. There are some really great ones by Simonds. At $50 range, the midgrade ones last a very long time.
