Rachel is a hero. I had looked at that thread a gazillion times before and I only ever understood it this time around. Rachel is a good teacher.:)

Jyri,
Your design sounds pretty neat. I would think that a ten foot whip would be heavy enough without a shot load, even if you don't wax it.

Ethan, i'm not going to shot load or wax. But i'm still thinking about how many bellyes to make. 2 would be more familiar for me but on the other hand i habe never done whip with 3 bellyes

Jyri, when I built my 16 foot, I stuck to two bellies. More than that and I was worried about weight. I think it was Ben that made a whip with a three belly thong but two belly handle. It gave a much thinner handle which seems like a good idea.

I had some toughts about this core. From the knot it has 4 paracords inside each other and they cradually ends towards the tip wich is only one gutted paracord wich goes all the way whole core. It has nice whip action already. I made it 13ft long just to be sure its long enough :D

I made one handle for future build too.

Whip thong will beging from the seperate portion and the machined end will have brass spacers wich have birchbark between them. The middle portion will be covered with wood.

Thanks!
I have been thinking about the pattern in overlay. Is it possible to get 2 stripes of blue to go around the whip and overlapping thru the whip? Same way as you do openloop binding? Its going to be 16plat main colour being white as in Finish flag.

Jyri, if what you're talking about is what I'm thinking, it's definitely possible. What you want to do is to make sure that the blue strand on one side is always right opposite the one on the other side, so that when you plait, they'll be plaited right after each other.

So when i start my plaiting as Rachel has kindly has shown me in this thread, I just put them in opposite sides and go from there?
