Gave it few very silent craks and it feels kind of heavy but I think it becose I have never tryed one, but on the other hand it feels like it wants to go faster. It rolls really well. I test it better tomorrow and maybe take a video. The handle is just for testing.
Looking good Jyri! The thong looks great. Nice even taper. If anything I would re-bind the keeper on the handle with waxed thread or sinew and at least put a knot on the end of the handle so you have something to hold onto.

So after work I went to make some cracking an it craks fairly well. The problem as expected is the handle. I think I have to make it longer and heavier from the butt end. And the keeper should be smaller in the thong but that would mean to plait the whole whip again uhg. Or is it possible to do binding to the end of the keeper an put knot in there?

Jyri, that doesn't look bad at all! But I agree - a longer handle, weighted at the butt, would probably work better. I recently had an 8-foot stock whip, which had a 21 inch handle - and I'm not sure that was long enough. I think I'd try 24 inches....

It does look like a longer handle is needed ^_^ My 5ft one I'm using a 20in handle, but I think 18in might work better.
For a 7ft I'd say longer than 20in?

I got two handle options, 24 inc aluminium rod and wooden one. I have to taper the wooden one and if I use the aluminium it has to be fullplaited. Maybe I go for the wooden one, it should give me better weight ratio. How is the handle keeper end look like?
I couldn't make those handles today so I tryed to make new core for future build, but I include it to this tread becose it has similar build as this one.
Black end is one paracord wich goes thru the whole core, red mark with pencil is where it has 2 paracords, green mark 3 paracords, purple has 4 paracord and from the white is 5 paracords inside eachother. I am going to put some bbs behind those and maybe make bullwhip out of it It is really smooth and it has that rolling feel when you trow it.
Jyri, for the keeper either do a plaited keeper with the same design as the whip. It will be a flat braid. Fold it over and bind it with waxed nylon thread or sinew. You can put a covering knot or grapevine hitch over it to make it look nice. Another alternative is to get a piece of nylon webbing about 1 inch wide or so, fold it in half, and bind it.
Oh, the loop formed by the keeper should be a little wider than the thong. It should be snug, but just loose enough that the whip can go through it. If it is too loose it will still work, just a bit more difficult to handle/crack.

Managed to make new handle and steel concho for extra weight. Handle is spruce wich I tapered sanded smooth, burned and waxed. Smells good and it has nice contrast, tought its hard to photograpth.
Another thing I forgot to mention - at the keeper end of the handle sand down about 1cm from the end and round out the end forming a small knob. The rounded end will protect the keepers. The knob shape will give you something to bind onto so the keeper does not slip off. You could also cut small grooves around the keeper end for the keeper to bite into when you bind it on. If you leave it with a smooth surface the keeper could slip off.
On my leather stockwhips I use a fiberglass handle. I shape a small knob on the end which I cover with a small piece of leather to protect the keeper. I also cut grooves to provide something for the keeper to hold onto. I put the keeper on and then do a full plait all the way to the keeper end and bind it with sinew to hold the leather strands in place. Over that is a Turks head. If I used cane for a handle I bind the keeper on and do a half-plait cover. Turks heads cover the ends of plaiting. I could do a grapevine hitch over the keeper binding to hide it, or just leave it as is.
There is no right or wrong way to make a handle. One of my early handles used to be part of a pool cue. It had steel inside for about 3-4 inches in the butt end and was pretty hefty.

I did some silent testing with new handle and it feels a lot better! Now I have to glue the steel coin in, make knot foundation and the knot.
