Well, I teased you all about this whip. The idea came to me one night as I was drifting off to sleep thinking about my next build. I was picturing the prep work I have to do on each piece of steel bar I use as a handle and I found myself asking the question - why does the handle need to be covered? The extra layer of cord and sinew can't add very much in terms of foundational support to the handle - the bar will either hold or it'll bend; no amount of cord will stop that.

So, with this idea in mind, I planned a straightforward 6' Bull whip, fortunately found a supplier who had the right colours and came up with this:

Cold Steel
6' 6" from Heel to hitch
TT core
1 x 8 plt belly
1 x 12 plt belly
16 plt Thong in Black & Silver Stripes and Chocolate Tan and Sand
6 pt Fall Hitch
2 ft Fall
5B x 6L Tripled TH Heel Knot with Rusty Washer concho

The concept is metal and rust.

NOT E-Tape! It's a self-sealing silicone tape that melds into itself creating a rock solid permanent foundation.

It still needs waxing but I took it outside for a brief crack and well, the phrase "Straight out of the box..." comes to mind! I am a VERY happy bunny!

Wow, Sir Roger. This one sure looks the part. It does remind me of a prosthetic though or for some strange reason, "The Terminator".
Excellent fall hitch.
Perhaps in the near future a video of it's performance.
Great job.

Thats a cool concept. It kind of gives the illusion of being a half-plait handled stockwhip. I kind of like this. It's a little shocking at first, but really easy to get used to.

This has got a cool freakiness to it. Makes me feel uncomfortable because it seems like the thong is about to slip off the handle any minute now, but it's so beautiful! This is great work! Very unique and imaginative! I'm a fan!

I'm a big fan of rustic metal looks anyway so this is a total win in my book!

Very nice Roger. I like that color combination. The handle definitely is different. It has a Terminator, Steampunk, Tank Girl vibe to it!
Here's wishing you find time for the things you want to do, and for the things you need to do.

Have to say i love the colurs and the work - its really a beauty. The idea on leaving the steel out - looks a little funny to me - maybe just because it is so different - but again the plaited parts are great :-)

That's pure "out of the box" thinking, right there. I'm intrigued by the design.
The colors are very nice.

And man that fallhitch looks good. I remember in one of Robby's WB shorts he mentioned that a good fall hitch is a marker for a good constructed whip.
It looks very good and nice.

Thanks for the comments guys. I haven't been this excited about a finished whip in a long time. Should have good weather tomorrow so hope to get some cracking done. I can start the 10/10 challenge!

Oh that's very nice Roger! :D I've done this on a stockwhip before, but never on a bullwhip, that's such a weird look XD

Love the rusty heel decoration too~

Jayus that's nice. I love the colours and the rusty washer really sets the heel knot off :D.

Fantastic job all round.

My compliments to you work Sir Tuson !!!

The Fall hitch looks superb and the design is very unique - I've seen many bullwhips that had all plaited layers staged in the middle of the handle (except for the first belly) but you have taken this to a whole new level !!!

All the best

Roger, that's seriously nice! The colours are terrific - and I think the exposed steel shank actually makes it look a bit 'sci-fi'. :)

Thanks again. I'm starting to think this is the best whip I've made so far. Mind you, I've been saying that about the last four so I must be doing something right!

That's really cool Sir Roger! It does evoke scifi, and that's a good thing for me. I think the colors look great and I'm betting this whip would appeal to the steampunk crowd.
