I've been taking breaks. They just aren't excited about going back to plaiting. It's like taking a vacation from work. You're glad you did it, but not looking forward to going back.

I know what you mean, although not to the same degree :P. I think it'll be many years before I try something longer than 8ft-9ft, just because I like to do the entirety of one layer in one 'session'. For a 16ft overlay, I'd be up all day and all night.
Jesse, you could use a clothes pin on the last "over" side to hold them in place when you take a break.
I use a hemostat but a spring clothes pin works almost as well.
I am really looking forward to seeing your progress.

It's ok if you disagree with me.
I can't force you to be right.
Sounds good, quick breaks are great but I don't like a half-finished whip cluttering up my desk for more than one night. I'll look into using hair grips as a holder rather than e-tape, seems like it'd work a treat.
Ron, why do that when you have the highest quality, professional grade electrical tape? That's the only thing I use e tape for now. Just to hold strands.

Okay, picture time. This is my whip after plaiting the first belly and binding it. This thing is super stiff. I'll be binding the second belly in a similar fashion. It's about 2.5 feet of closed loop binding with the rest of the belly covered in x binding. It's coming along slowly but surely.

Matt, It's gonna be 2 bellies. It'll give it a nice taper (almost all my whips are 2 belly, unless they're really short) as well as weight to crack while not making it too heavy.
And yes, my fingers hate me right now.

Matt, I thought about it, but I think it would be too heavy. I'm adhering to the "stick with what you know" mentality. Aside from fancy plaiting on the handle of course.
