Thanks everyone! :D

Michal, your arm becomes your handle when you use snakes :) If you do make one, the best advice I got from Tyler was to lightly bind the whip, because it'll give your arm just that tiny bit more leverage~

Jesse, one day when I have the time and materials, I'm going to make a 12ft snakewhip just because I can XD

Sebastion, can't wait to see the pictures of your build~

I'm never sure what I think about snakes. I've got a 4-foot (useless, largely because it's too light), a 5-foot (badly made, with a heavy shot bag carried much too far down the thong), and an 8-foot. The 8-footer (kangaroo) is much the best: it's very heavy at the butt end, and very light (and thin) towards the fall. But - well, perhaps I just need to spend more time experimenting with what it can (and can't) do. But Brandon, on this basis I think 6-foot is (at least for me) potentially the optimum length for a snake - and yours look as if the weight is carried out just right. I'd love to be able to try one!

Robert, snakes are really quite weird. On one hand, I really love them because they just feel like an wibbly extension of your arm, and it feels amazing to have it just bend through the air with a twist of your wrist, but on the other hand, it's a totally different technique to normal whips.

I think I'm lucky in that I found a nice medium on my first go, which is why my friend liked this design so much. The shot loading is mainly at the handle, tapers to between about 1/4 and 1/3 of the whip length, and the rest is paracord (and wax).

I'd have to agree, though, 6 - 7 ft is a really nice length for snakewhips~ I'll probably be making one of these for the official whip swap, so maybe my victim will be you! :P

One of my favourite whips is a 5' Snake I made waaay back when I first started building. It's far from being a 'well made' whip but it's fast, cracks like a demon and is great fun to use.
