This high end bag is made out of heavy and durable cowhide leather. It’s crafted by hand and is completely padded on the inside to give your whips the protection they deserve. The zipper is made from black nylon and is smoother than a metal zipper, yet nearly tearproof and it can’t scratch your whip! The padded and stitched lining is made from a natural material - protective but soft-feeling cotton. This bag comes also with a removable leather strap - so you can put it safely onto your shoulder.
The hardware is brass. Massive, expensive brass from a German manufacturer.
Not Taiwanese.
The bag can carry about 3 - 5 whips, accessories, spare falls and crackers.
But the idea behind this bag is not the mass storage.

The WBSR 6 ft. target whip was built specifically for precision and/or high speed targeting. It begins with a densely rounded kip core. Then kip bolsters, encompassing the roohide bellies. The final step before the all-kangaroo overlay is one last bolster which fully encircles the second belly and extends nearly the full length of the whip. It features a slender 10 inch steel spike handle with a subtle fancy braiding pattern - exclusively for the WBSR target whip.
The transition zone is reinforced for additional target precision.
On the butt of the handle you’ll find the exclusive Whip Basics stamp. And - if desired - you can have your own Initials (two letters) instead of the “WB” logo, stamped on the butt of the handle to personalize your whip. |

This is an exiting new interpretation of the classic stock whip by Dusty Damrel from Texas. It’s 6 foot in length and braided with 8 plait from 4 ounce veg tanned cowhide. The glossy black handle is made from metal and the grip area is covered with leather and is higher in diameter than a usual stockwhip, so it‘s more than comfortable for big hands. The swivel keeper is made from metal, too, and is able to turn full 360 degrees! So you don’t have to turn your handle - the thong will always adjust itself. That makes „The Shackled Jackal“ a fast - a very fast - whip! We don’t recommend this one for the beginner.
The seasoned whiphandler will find it a rough and tough working whip (the core of this whip is a 3/32 inch stainless steel cable which runs the full length of the thong and tapers down to the tip!) with a unique, new design. |

This 6 foot stock whip, braided by Tony Layzell, has a black glass fibre rod, which is half plaited in 12 plait and then over laid with a 16 plait in silver grey nylon. The thong is 12 plait. This stock whip has a higher diameter at the handle end to give a secure grip. The keeper on the handle portion is made from black kangaroo hide.
The thong features two plaited keepers in 650 nylon paracord. This whip is well balanced and is perfect for multiple cracking and target work. |

This 6 foot Australian stockwhip, from the workshop of Simon Martin, has a 12 plait thong and a 16 plait handle. The stockwhip is made from 1st grade kangaroo hide and is whisky in color with a special two tone grapevine hitch and pineapple knot at the thin end of the handle. The handle is plaited in a unique pattern - the “bird’s eye” and is of the highest possible standard. As with our other whips, this Australian beauty is made for multiple cracking and for target work, too.

A traditional made Florida cowwhip by Rhett Kelley with a 6ft. thong, made from nylon. But the 14 inch handle is made from African Blackwood (first time ever on a Florida Cowwhip!). The pattern on the shot loaded thong is created like the coral snake, which lives in the area that whip is made. It’s waxed and features a special solid black "tapering twist" finish on the thong - the tapered twist which most Florida cow whips feature, instead of the fall hitch as on other whips. 1981 saw the coming of Indiana Jones in The Raiders of the Lost Ark, the whole Indiana Jones character became a cult and as with cults, sub cults became apparent to the hat, the jacket, the boots and of course - the whip.
The basic pattern was:
8 inch steel spike as a handle foundation, dense rolled kip core transition wear leather,
4 plait kangaroo hide belly plait, kip bolster
2nd 4 plait kangaroo hide belly plait, kip bolster
12plait kangaroo hide overlay plait, 6 plait kangaroo hide wrist strap (plaited flat)
heel knot 5x4 turks head 3 times round the foundation, transition knot 5x4 turks head 2 times
round the foundation 6 plait finish at the hitches,
white hide fall & black nylon cracker/popper
Here at Whip Basics the outer appearance of the whip is close to the original, but it’s not SA. It’s an interpretation of the whip, Harrison Ford used to carry in the Indiana Jones movies, made by Tony Layzell. But the internal construction, whilst created with two bellies and two bolsters, wear leather etc. in the original Morgan fashion, is done with a modern slant that makes this whip a pattern in its own right and exclusive to Whip Basics, hence the name...

In the end, it all comes down to a question of philosophy. Not more.
If one says “For me a whip has to be made from leather. Otherwise it’s not a whip”
you can give him the best nylon whip ever made. He won’t accept it anyway.
The times where nylon whips were clumsy and plump are gone for long, long years now.
Today’s nylon whips are perfect in performance and accuracy.
And…they don’t need any maintenance.
Don’t crack it on sand, don’t crack it on concrete, protect it from rain and moisture.
And don’t crack it on wet grass. I’m talking about leather whips...
The great advantage of a nylon whip is the fact that you don’t have to bother if it’s sunny,
if it’s raining or the grass is dry. You can crack it whenever, wherever you want.
Some people compare absolute high-end leather whips with poorly made, cheap nylon ones.
Guess who wins? However, if you compare a high quality nylon whip with a cheap leather whip, the winner is? Exactly.
Neither makes any sense at all. If you compare, then compare at the same level.
A high-end leather whip with a high-end nylon whip. Handling, performance and accuracy.
The result will surprise you. At this end, there’s only a slight difference (at all) wirklich notwendig?.
If it comes to the feel, okay, that’s a totally different story.
Leather is leather. It feels different in your hand and it looks like - leather.
And so we’re at the beginning.
The leather whip is made from a natural material, but you have to be careful where
and when you crack it. The nylon whip is made from an artificial material, but you don’t have to look out of your window before you go out to crack it.
If you judge both materials, make sure that you compare on a neutral base and the same level.
I’m sure that you’ll find what suits you best then.

Often whips are offered and sold as “Roohide whips”.
But then parts of the inner life are made from kip and/or cowhide.
Don’t get me wrong - that’s absolutely okay, because it doesn’t affect
the performance in any way.
I just think it’s important to let the customer know exactly
what he’s spending his hard earned money on.
Sometimes you read “high quality roohide” and then you get just 2nd grade quality.
Here we talk about 1st grade roohide. And nothing else.
It may be a subtle distinction. But it is an important one.
So here on the WBSR you have detailed infos on which materials are used in every whip.
When a whip is declared as “made entirely from roohide”, it is - except of course the fall…-
entirely made from roohide!
Here’s our guarantee: If you open one of our whips which is declared as entirely made
from roo, and you find anything else than 1st grade roohide in the braided part,
you’ll have your money back and you’ll get a new whip for free.
