If you happen to have apple TV, the new series See shows several. It is a dystopian future where everyone (almost) is blind. The whips are used like walking sticks. Steve Townsend made the whips.

I think this is my second TT core. I'm not sure if I have a true feel for it yet, or if I ever will. I know this one is twisted tighter than the last, however, I'm unsure if it's tight enough. I assume it's another thing you figure out with more experience. I am pretty confidant that ...

Finally got a chance to restart my whip.

I'm still unsure if this is the best way to attach a TT core to the rod, but I haven't had an issue yet. I might put a small piece of finger tape over the transition.

Starting whip #7 and I thought I'd do a build thread. For Whip #7, I'm planning a 7 foot bullwhip. I start with 1/4" steel rod that I turn down at one end. I have a mini lathe that makes this part pretty easy.

I'm not terribly fond of vanilla ice cream or public tv, but I do like those whips.

As predicted/suggested the new heel turned out much better. After attempting multiple different knots, I did have to build it up a little with hockey tape to get one to work. I now know what size and shape to start with next time. Just needs some wax and a cracker and I'm calling it done.

Round 2

Again, trying to make the best of a mistake. It seems I need to take my reading glasses when I shop. What I thought were 1.5" balls were actually 1.75". Some time with a sander, rasps and files produced what will hopefully be a better end result.

Thank you for the kind words. At this point, I'm calling it a successful failure. It looks nice, but it's too big for my hands as well. I think my excitement of doing something different clouded my judgement a bit. Different still needs to be functional.
