Yes, the shift/90 degree rotation of the patten was planned. It's the same concept as on the black and silver grey target whip.
It probably won't be everybodys cup of tea, but I like it.

An older build that I haven't posted so far:

A 16 plait 6,5 foot hidden handle bullwhip with 2 bellies in coyote brown and caffe late Paracord. I did use the flip and shake method on this one and the pattern on the handle is twisted by 90 degree from the middle point on.

If you want to see in advance how colors will change by waxing them, you can simply soak a sample string in water.

Robert, yes dirt becomes a lot more visible on white whips than on any other colour, which requires cleaning them on a regular basis. A pure white tone can also get a yellowish stain over time, thats why I went for silver grey on this one.

You can try to make the first segment (1-2 Inches) of the 4 strand TT super tight . After some rolling, this usualy creats an even "transition of the tension" (the tightness of the first Inches of TT will "pull" on the 4 plait strands during the rolling).

Just measure out how many strands of the seam will fit into the desired length of your handle one of your previous builds. In the next step you can start designing your fancy plaiting. Counting the strands at the seam ...

An 8,3 foot Target Bullwhip with an 39cm Handle (=15,35 Inch) with 2 plaited Bellies (10 plait and 12 plait) in silver Grey and Black:

A 7 foot Bullsnake in imperial red with an 6 Inch handle, 2 plaited Bellies and an 6 point English Eye:

Using several layers of open loop binding makes it easier for me to control how the rigidity tapers. For this particular whip I did use 3 layers of open loop binding.
