MST3K

So, I missed it when it first debuted, but Netflix recently put up the entirety of "Mystery Science Theater 3000". I love it. The combination of,the dialogue going on in the commentary and the cheesy awfulness of what may be considered b (maybe even c) rated cinema is amazing.

Now, they have remade MST3K as a Netflix original series, starring new actors. If you're a nerd like me, and have seen "Supernatural" or the internet shows "The Guild" and "Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog", you're familiar with Felicia Day (played Charlie in "Supernatural" and Penny in "Dr. Horrible"). I love it. It was an excellent remake. They really pay a lot homage to the original.

I remeber watching MST3K the movie while I was living in the U.S.
The movie had been about "This Island Earth" and it has been lots of fun to watch!
Thank's for the tip Jesse, I'll keep looking for the remake (I don't have a Netflix account)!

All the best

Ben, it might well be worth it. The digital only account is not very expebsive at all. Just a couple bucks a month, and always plenty to watch.

Yep cheesy movies rock.
It's the kind of movies I would watch every Saturday night on TV. We didn't have a color TV so that made it all the more cheesy.

I love the original mst3k, I haven't seen any of the new ones yet- Jesse, when you say "entirety" do you mean literally everything ? Including episodes that had international copyright issues? Can I finally see Jet Jaguar in action?!

Ok, poll:

1. What's your favorite episode of the original series?
2. I'm going to break a longstanding internet truce here.... Mike or Joel?

I am totally out to lunch on this one.
I sort of remember the MST3K but not much.

Ron, I never got into the show either. I always seemed to be more into the movie and everything else seemed to be a distraction for me. For whatever reason, it never "clicked".

Scott, that's the way I saw it too.
I was like, " Shut up, you're ruining the movie."

Tyler, unfortunately, only, the ones available here. It does kind of suck, but, copyrights are copyrights. I do have to say, I dont really have a favorite one. They all had their moments. And same goes for Mike and Joel. They each had their own respective senses of humor, and had to take that with a grain of salt.

Ron, and Scott, I understand, and some of the movies they made fun of I count among my favorites like "Crawling Eye" and Robot Monster. Others, I think would be unwatcheable without the riffing. Especially the really dry low budget dramas from the 50's and 60's. One of my very favorites is Pumaman.... it's so stupid, you can't help but laugh and the riffing just adds to it, and through it all there's poor Donald Pleasence being a villain like a pro.

Jesse, I liked both hosts too, like you said for different reasons. It's my understanding that this was once such a divisive topic that it was forbidden to even bring it up on most forums. That was before I had access, but I find that funny in and of itself. Have you ever watched Film Crew?

1. The Girl in the Golden boots
2 And I'll it. Mike. Joel didn't do it for me but Crow, Servo and Gypsy always save the movie.

Now I'll ask you all:

Best one liner from the show?

Mine is "Who would have guessed that sex and drugs would have a seamy side."

My son and I would sit and watch these and laugh. Most of them were so horrible that the bots would make the movie tolorable. Manos: The Hands of Fate was so bad I would have never gotten through it alive if it wasn't for the comments, but since my son is so funny himself, he added commentary too and we were both rolling on the couch. I loved these.

"You know this scene is strong enough for a Manos, but made for a Womanos" :D

Ah, Manos.... I think the worst one they ever tried to do was Red Zone Cuba. I also never made it all the way through Lost Continent....."Rock Climbing!"
