The Donations

Well... We have an annual whip lottery, in which everybodey can participate. And the money for the tickets goes - exactly; to the doggies. And to avoid any possible "misunderstandings" - with an official contribution receipt...!

Please post here what you will donate to the Dog Shelter Campaign 2017.
Or ask if it would be appropriate as donation... :)

The rules - only a few, trust me - can be found right here: viewtopic.php?pid=113348#p113348

What are you waiting for...? Christmas? :D

As I posted yesterday in another thread, here's what I intend to contribute as a prize: a 5-foot snakewhip (maker unknown - possibly the late Larry Robinson). It's made of leather - I don't know what kind of leather, but I don't think it's kangaroo. I once showed this whip to David Morgan, who looked at it with a critical eye. They he cracked it. 'Well, it works,' he observed dryly. True enough. I think it could be much improved by someone used to working with leather. For one thing, the shot loading goes too far down the thong. Where it stops, the thong just flops. The leather fall is too wide and too flat. It really should be replaced. But - the whip does work. Someone might enjoy just playing with it, or (even better) rebuilding the end of the thong and replacing the fall as an interesting project. I'll try to take some decent photos....

This year I'll make a six foot bull whip in the German flag colors.
If I can't run fast, I'll make slow look impressive.

I am going to make a whip this year as well.
Most likely a 6.5 footer.

I am going to make one this year.
I'm thinking a 6.5 footer, English eye, weighted double loop fall.

Just my two cents, but shouldn't there be a minimum length to be set for a whip donation?

Throwing together a 2 or 3 foot snake whip just seems wrong to me.
But that's just my thoughts on the matter.

I'm thinking of doing a 6 foot whip/leash hybrid. Haven't decided on colors yet, but ill figure it out soon.

Well, it's a donation. A gift. Besides I think those little headband whips are cool. A small whip might be able to go into a lower donation category-- remember, last year 50$+ donations put you in for a whip, we had smaller things for lower donations, like sinew, Paracord, WN swag, crackers, etc.

Ron if other prizes are allowed it may seam inconsistent. If we were trading, it would be different. It's all donation so any item that helps draw another ticket purchase is, in my opinion, welcome.
I don't mean to sound overbearing or bossy, just it is all in my mind welcome for the pup's benefit.
If I donate a 10 foot whip and buy a ticket and win a 3 foot whip, it is just fine, the luck of the draw!
I do see what you're saying, though :)

We should all do our best for the pups.

I think-
One $5 ticket should get the ticket buyer a chance at everything.
Everything in one pot. It is the luck of the draw. Simple, clear, straightforward, no chance at confusion. That is the way I interpreted the rules..... But maybe I misunderstood.

Whatever the powers that be decide is fine.

I agree with you and after further review I can definitely see what y'all are saying.
It is a gift and all for a good cause.
Yep one ticket one chance for any gift. Luck of the draw.
That way it would not limit the prize because of amount of money given.
Every one has a chance with all donated gift prizes regardless of the number of tickets bought. Some can only afford a couple of tickets.
Of course the more tickets purchased, the more your chances of winning prizes. :)

Keeping in mind it's for the pups and not about the prizes.

Well there ya go. One donation, one drop in the pot.

I am making a whip this year too. My first one. I have a few ideas on the artwork, but I'm not making it public until the draw. I'll post pictures, but no one will see the handle, I just kind of have a special idea in mind that I would like to keep a mystery. You know. Intrigue...is my middle name.

Jessie, you should keep it all secret... a little more expectation, drama, drum roll... This one is going to be super special, no doubt.

We love secrets!
Isn't that right Rachel ? :)

May I ask - should we post up pictures of the final donation to get interest in the raffle, or should we keep it secret so that it's a surprise when the new owner gets it? :)

Yep! This is a lottery. And people will only buy tickets, when they know what they can win, right?
When it comes to a whip swap - that's a different story. But here... - pictures, pleeeease! :)

I'm in.

Toying with the idea of donating my 'Cold Steel' as it received such compliments :) but I have just started a new 7' Snake which will be called 'Scrappy' 'cos I'm using all my leftover lengths of cord to build it. Let's see how that one turns out but there will be a whip and probably a bracelet or two thrown in!
