  The Lottery Prizes 2015!

Post by Robby Amper »

Dear Whip makers who are going to donate a whip for this lottery - please post your pictures right in here. That way everybodycan see what we have to offer. But - again - even those who don't win a whip - you are serving a good, a very good cause!

And here is the next detail:

You can buy your tickets from Saturday June 27th on. Then you have two weeks to decide how much tickets you want to have. If you buy tickets and you decide later on that you want to have more - no problem. Or is there are friends and/or family who want to join... You can buy tickets for others, too! And here is how to buy them from that date on:

One ticket is 5.00 US Dollar. Buy as many tickets as you like. But two things: First - please choose "friends & family" on PayPal, when you send the money. That way the PayPal fees will (could...) be a bit lesser. In the end PayPal will take a cut from all the money, which will reduce the total amount a bit. So - please mind that - it is not me keeping some money, it is PayPal! And through the conversion from US Dollar to Euro there will be a little loss, too. But that's on the bank. And not on me...

So when you buy tickets, please put into the PayPal message field your name and how many tickets you buy. That makes it much easier for me to keep the overview. For example: "Hey Robby, it's me! I would like to buy five tickets for the doggie shelter and I can't wait wait to see how everything will be! Have a good one, and we meet at the forum! Take care, Steve!"

That would not be too good. Especially when more folks send money for tickets. So please write only this:

"Steve 5 Tickets 25 USD"

That is the perfect way for me to control everything, and later on we have the transparency the whole thing needs!

And those are the folks who donate:

Einar Stephenson
Chris Holtz
Devin Bauer
Roger Tuson
Tyler Blake
Jared Routon
Antti "Pokkis" Mäkinen
Guy Washburn

Thanks to all of you.

And now... The pictures :)

Pretty sure I just drooled a little. I can tell my landlord I HAD to spend my rent on tickets, right? I mean, a chance to own one of these masterpieces AND a worthy cause? I can be homeless for a month. :)

Right, then! Here's the whip I'm donating to the auction:

This is a chocolate brown 8' Indy made by Graeme Roberts of England. (Graeme no longer makes whips.) I bought it second-hand some five or six years ago, but haven't used it much. It's not even completely broken in. I would say this is quite a good Indy whip, though not perhaps of the same quality as whips made by (say) Devin Bauer, Keanu Shimaoka or Einar Stephenson. (I mention these makers as I have whips by all three.)

This whip has a white-hide fall, as requested by the original customer: it works very well, having a little more weight than a nylon fall. Because it's been used in the British climate, the fall is not pristine.

The whole whip weighs about 660 grammes; the weight is carried well down the thong. I don't know anything about the core. As you can see, the plaiting is nice and straight. These excellent photos were very kindly taken by Mario Desgronte.

My pics will be a bit delayed as I may have some re-plaiting to do. :(

It'll be ready as soon as possible though. Hopefully by the end of this weekend.

A delay is no problem, Rog. In fact it isn't a delay at all - we don't have a deadline for pictures :)
What wouldn't make me happy - if one of the folks who promised to donate a whip would not do it.
But it's not over until it's over, right? And there's plenty of time. For everyone... :)

Absolutely Tyler, please go ahead and use any pics I post of this whip. There are a few construction shots in the Whip section - #17 thread if you want them too!
