I'm not telling everything here since this is a public area, and even regardless of that I don't believe in handing out detailed recipes for people who want to learn something. But all these photos and my babbling should be interesting or even helpful on their own too.

Balls to the walls! I have a similar container, if not the same. Yours might be smaller... again. I bought it brand new and cost me more than I could afford. Do you also heat on the stove? I'm getting into details again, sorry. That's a whipping whippy whip start right there! Spell check doesn't agree with whippy though.
Predictive text doesn't agree either!
Pokkis, information is always good, but I personally learn better from my many fails than all the recipes in the world. A set recipe once for the first is good, but you have to think and try... And realize cause and effect..
And if I want to make it bad enough, to an extent I should have to work it out, too 
So, thank you for NOT giving every detail up!!!!
Erik, that's the biggest catering container in the gastronorm standard, so it's probably the same. Too big to fit inside a household oven. Yeah, I heat it on my stove using two of the plates at once. Still takes a while to heat it up.
Rachel, I don't think there's a better teacher than trial and error. I could tell everyone exactly how I make everything, but that would teach nothing more than the way I do things. It's not even the only way and there's a reason why all the little details are as they are. Also I occasionally sell this stuff too. For actual money that buys me things. So giving everything up on a public section of the forum is not something I want to do, I admit that.

I agree in not sharing everything with just anybody. Also agree on not having recipes. Can't add anything you've said on the subject.
Yeah now that I measured mine they're the same size (!) So it's a GN 1/1. There's still a bigger one, GN 2/1 but they're way expensive. I bought a lid on mine, it was like 20€ from Keittiö & Kattaus in Hämeenpuisto and it seemed to make the melting a little bit faster. Still takes at least an hour though.

You're right, Erik. It is a GN 1/1 and I was talking out of my ass which never happens by the way.
Those things are crazy expensive so getting one of these in this price (promised the chef I'll make him a very inexpensive bullwhip) was the way to go. This is why it's good to know people
Back to the whip. The first belly is now rolled, bound and ready for second belly. This time I took the binding further than usual, up to about a quarter of the thong length. To whoever will get this whip eventually: please break it in carefully and with time, and let me know how it turns out after that because this is now officially becoming the final prototype of something I will be selling in the future. It already has a name too but I'll tell you that when it's done and in your hands, mystery person.
No photos until tomorrow. My better half is already asleep, and I'm not going to the bedroom just to dig the camera an other stuff out of the closet just now. She's scary when denied her rest.

I just read through this thread and it is almost pornographic. I feel a little violated by the multi sized balls....and rods....moving on...

That should do the trick. Then it's time to plait and bind the second belly and cut the handle parts. After that nothing will probably happen for a while since I need to order more supplies.

Thank you, Robert. What I'm doing now is basically what I originally invented, tested and found to work with the Redshift mini whips. This is my second attempt to scale those theories up into a full size whip. First one seemed to work, this one should work better, and in the course of all that I really feel I've found my own personal style. I owe big thanks to everyone here for the positive feedback I've received since who knows when. This one will not even be a prototype anymore but rather a recipe for an actual product. Can't wait to see how it goes
Ended up adding a bit more binding over where the transition will be. After the binding on the second belly (no photos yet, sorry) I'm pretty convinced that this time the transition should be just how I want it to be. I still don't want to make it too long as that would make the whip more difficult for general cracking, I like the all-round idea more. And I don't believe an extra long transition is a mandatory thing after all. A 12-inch handle and a straight rolling thong with just enough mass should do the trick just fine.

Decided not to post more photos after all, there wasn't anything you hadn't seen before anyway. Except for something I'd rather the recipient saw first.
Now there's just one thing. I know I'm breaking a rule I wrote myself and can't say I'm very happy to do so, but going to the post office today is just not going to happen. Too sick for that right now. I'll be sending the whip as soon as possible in any case, and the least I can do is send it as a priority package to minimise the delay for the recipient. I'm really sorry for this inconvenience.
This has been a fun project but also somehow really difficult. Not everything worked as intended -- I actually had to scrap the first attempt which seems to be a running theme among us -- and the very small number of whips I've made this year has taken its toll. But I also learned a lot, as seems to be the case every time.

Photo bucket is being stubborn, so I'll post the pictures later. Here is the video of me trying it out. The whip is great; I'm just having troubles because I've never used such a light and stiff whip before.

This is an incredible whip. I'll never learn how to make the transition so stiff without being twice as thick. The handle appears to be carbon fiber. The concho is a 7.62x39 casing. I'm guessing that's the part that Pokkis had trouble getting. The taper is really good, but it gets a bit lumpy after the red drops away. It looks like it needs more rolling in that area. I'm guessing that you have the same difficulty as I do in rolling the thinner parts.
I'm glad to now have a physical example of a good fall hitch in hand so that I can work on mine.
I did notice a few places where a small frayed piece of dropped strands stick out of the weave. When this happens with my whips, I just hit them with the lighter quick.

I really like the intricacy of the pattern and how you dropped the red strands in a very specific order causing several different, but pre-planned patterns over the length of the thong.
