Flemming, these are the crackers that Glen Denholm sent me with the stockwhip I bought from him. They are quite thick and I had trouble getting them to make anything but the poof you mentioned at first, but now the one on the whip is is getting a bit frayed and, as you said, it is getting easier to get a good pop out of them.
The poppers I got with Bernie Wojcicki's whip seem to be the same material.
