Re: The "Making of" Gallery - Roy Partin

I am constantly trying different ideas to improve my designs. This is my latest idea that seems to work great. I’ve never been much of a fan of sinker cord, but have found a use for it. Here is a quick video of my new core.

Roy, that looks great.
It looks like it rolls out super straight.
Nicely done.
Perhaps when you have the time a little "how to" would be great.

I was going to post a time traveling joke, but y'all didn't like it.

That looks fine, fine.  Nice and straight with good body and feel... Aced it!  Great new way for a core, I love it.

Re: The "Making of" Gallery - Roy Partin

This is my first whip after a few months break to allow my body to heal. It's 12 feet 16 plait in black with tan chevron. I went with a hickory handle for something different. I'm probably going to start using hickory for all my basic handles. Its light, strong, and affordable. Plus, our ranch is covered in hickory trees, so I can cut my own turning blanks to use. My hands and elbows won't allow me to do my long tapered twist cores anymore, so I came up with a good alternative. I'm now using heavy duty weed eater string for my cores.

Roy, very nicely done.
It would be interesting to see how you use the trimmer string for your cores.

It's great to have you back, Roy.  Beautiful whip!

Due to rising costs, dirty deeds are no longer done dirt cheap.

Hi Roy, that's a fine looking whip, sir.

Re: The "Making of" Gallery - Roy Partin

Roy - it looks good. 12 ft. !!!!!  I don't think I could get in in motion (I am not that strong), but it must be a fantastic nice slow motion when it rolls out smile

Today is a good day

Re: The "Making of" Gallery - Roy Partin

Roy that looks great! The handle is a nice piece of hickory as well. Normally I don't even see that much grain in it. Was this from the heartwood or close to it?

Re: The "Making of" Gallery - Roy Partin

Thank you all very much.
Collin, I purchased this hickory from Wood Workers Source, so not certain of its origin. I would assume its part sap wood and heart wood.
