I totally agree.
Also it's easy to "act out" a plan with a partner that's choreographed for filming purposes, but in real life you will probably never see it coming.Doing classes and selling whips as a tool for self defense is like promoting screen doors for submarines and just as useful.
Eventually someone is going to get hurt or even, heaven forbid, killed thinking this way.

Ron, you're right about the false sense of security.
From what I have heard if someone has a pistol and the other a knife the person with the knife has a 17 to 18 second drop on the shooter. That being said I wonder what that time might be with a whip vs. a knife or gun?
I've always thought , "You don't bring a knife to a gunfight." as sound advice.
The knife doesn't have a chance, unless you're in a movie.
