Topic: Whip autopsy, 90's Australian 'roo hide
This afternoon I'll be taking apart my first and only whip. I purchased it online in 1997 or so, from an Australian saddlery company who's identity has been lost over the last 20 odd years.
If memory serves it's a 10 foot twelve plait, and I paid around $200.00 is so for it.
When I first bought it I re-plaited the final 6 inches before the fall hitch as it was very loose, and I whipped the handle to body transition too. It was too floppy at that point.
It has served me well, but it's time to retire it. It's too light and doesn't reward good technique. To pop it you need to throw it and then time a pull back as the whip lays out.
I'm ready to see what's inside, and to buy something better made.
