  MIlk Cow Blues

Post by Mark Elliott »

Whip #64 is an 8-foot cow whip in chocolate brown and acid midnight blue paracord. The whip has 2 plaited bellies around a twisted-taper core that is weighted with leaded line and bound with artificial sinew. The handle is 16 inches long and made from Padauk (pronounced pa-DUKE or pa-DOOK according to the wood database.) The whip is finished with a twisted-tapered tail. The fall is 25 inches long and is weighted. The handle has a Tung oil finish and the whip is waxed.

Milk Cow Blues is an old Country Swing standard by the legendary Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys https://youtu.be/gmdmTjrRLrk There is also a version with vocals but I like the instrumental myself.

Great looking whip Mark.
I really like the acid look.
How does it crack? (as if I didn't already know :))

Thanks, Ron. I've been building my whips, the bullwhips, anyway, with more weight in the heel, which makes it easier to crack with these crappy arthritic wrists of mine. The balance of this one is about a foot further down the whip than on the ones I've been making, partially because of the length of the handle and partly because this is a little longer whip than I've been making, and therefore I can't crack it as long as I can with the shorter whips with more weight in the heel. It is still an easily cracked whip though, it just puts more stress on my wrist. I'll try to get a video and post it later.

Rachel, thank you, but you are entirely too kind and generous (but we all knew that already! ) I still have so much to learn.

Mark, those colours really suit the dry Texas climate. It's a great looking whip! :)

That’s one of the best color combinations I have seen so far and plaiting perfect as always! :)

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the kind words.

Robert, I have to make whips per customer's specs a lot, but when I get to choose its almost always earth tones, especially desert colors. I've grown up and lived most of my life on the edge of the southwestern deserts and I dearly love this area and it's vast, seemingly empty, vista's.

A very nice looking whip Mark. I absolutely love the colors and the diamond plaiting into the thong.
