The "Making of" Gallery - Rachel McCollough

This new Gallery replaces the former "Masters Gallery", which will work from now on as pure archive. Here you will find not only the work and art from folks who sell whips, but also from folks, who create their whips out of pure passion. And we have an additional gallery. It is called "The Gallery - Making of".

Thank y’all! Some reason my post decided not to show :D

9’ 6”, It is 16 plait with two plaited bellies and a twisted taper core in saddle tan and black with fancy plait. The spring steel rod is 10” long, with an elk collar with a 9 part, 7 bight Turk’s-head knot on each side. The heel has a deer antler bur that is polished, and scrimshaw work done in Wolf Creek Whips brand, your initials, and number “001”, the first Wolf Creek Whips numbered bullwhip. I have made one prototype bullwhip in nylon, and one child’s bullwhip also in nylon. This is the first in the series of any nylon or kangaroo hide bullwhip marked and numbered.
The heel knot is a three pass two-tone 9 part, 7 bight Turk’s-head knot.

Here it is in action:

Rachel... That is amazing. Simply amazing. The combination of materials - antler & leather - is the perfect combination. Congratulations on that wonderful piece of art. And my respect to a great whip maker!

Rachel, this is quite magnificent! Just looking at the taper, I can imagine very well how it would feel in my hand - and it would be a most satisfying feeling! Fantastic work!

Rachel, I don't know what else I could add that hasn't already been said. This is a whip that anyone would be proud to own!
I'll give it a try, Dad, but it's going to be really hard...kind of like trying to saw something in half using a banana.

Wow, that is a monster.
Definitely a one crack at a time whip.
One or two throws and I would be done. :)
How does it crack?

Golly, Rachel! This is the kind of whip that features in western novels, where the hero catches the villain round the ankles at a great distance! (I seem to recall that Lash LaRue used an 18-footer.)

I'm just a bit surprised that a thong that long doesn't need a longer handle to control it....

:D
Well, it takes awhile... before it goes CRACK :D
It takes some work, too, just from sheer size and weight! It is a lot of whip.

I was drawn immediately to the phots and missed the description. I had to go back an dread it after realizing that there seems to be quite a few coils in that thong. ;) It's a beautiful whip, Rachel. I especially like the contrast between the thong and the handle.
I'll give it a try, Dad, but it's going to be really hard...kind of like trying to saw something in half using a banana.
