That’s where I’m at on an Amper Style Elite, and three more being made at the same time (not all the same type,).

This is the end of an 8’ bullwhip, the one for a young fellow.  It just needs tightening up...

It's looking really good Rachel.
I'm hoping that plaiting can place your mind in a "peaceful me space" that everyone needs, especially first responders who have the stress of the job every shift whether it's a busy one or not.

Keep on keeping on.

Re: The "Making of" Gallery - Rachel McCollough

Thanks, Ron, it helps!  While I’m out this evening a little too mixed for plaiting, I still accomplished something necessary for whips:
I made a fid.  It has a duck bill shape for the tip, not sharp.  The handle is bocoté shaped with a rasp and then finished with Tung oil and Alfie  Shine, a paste wax that is a wonder.

Well done, Rachel. It looks like it fits your hand perfectly. It's beautiful and functional. What more could one ask for?

I'll give it a try, Dad, but it's going to be really hard...kind of like trying to saw something in half using a banana.

What a splendid little fid!  Well done, Rachel!  (And of course those whips in progress look good, as ever!)

The look of wood, the veins are somehow very satisfying.

I really like that color.
What's the shiney binding strand in the previous belly? It looks cool.

This is probably black... it looks grey blue on my monitor.

Almost finished with this one, next in the same group of whips is a set of three.  The handles and overlays all for the four (including the one shown) are being built at the same time both in plaiting and in the shop with the handles.

I really like the change of patterns.
Good job Rachel.

I hope this helps you center yourself and escape, for a little while, the things your job vexes you with. smile
