Topic: First men in the moon

Do you remember that movie? Where an crew, combined from a whole lot of nations land on the moon, and they discover an old british flag that says that the moon is part of the British empire and from now on is under the command of Queen Victoria. In the year of the Lord 1890. First they say: "That must be a fake!" But soon they discover that anyone must have brought it up there...

The film was made in 1964. Ray Harryhausen did all the stop motion effects and Charles H. Schneer was the Director.

I remember the original , but not the second one you mentioned.
That would be a shock to discover something like that.

Re: First men in the moon

I haven't seen this one, but it looks like a very interesting concept!  I would like to see it.

Inch by inch.

Re: First men in the moon

It's a bit before my time, I have not seen it. It looks enjoyable enough for a 50 something year old movie.

My first sci-fi movie experience at the cinema was The Black Hole.

Re: First men in the moon

I'm working on it!!!  Actually, you guys, I rented it for 2 days and started watching it last night.  I'll finish it tonight.  It's good.  Completely far fetched, but really fun.  I think ill like it.  Give it a shot.  You can rent it on Amazon.

Re: First men in the moon

I tried renting a movie on Amazon recently, but apparently I reside outside the known Amazon universe and it would not let me even pay for it.
Quite frustrating because there are a few lesser known films on there I would like to watch.

Re: First men in the moon

What about the IMB website that Robby posted the trailer from?

Re: First men in the moon

Actually, I think I have read the book.
I always felt that Cavor and the Cavorite was a bit of a ripoff from Verne´s Zephyrin Xirdal and his Xirdallium.
Or should we say "inspired by"?

Re: First men in the moon

Of course I remember!  Sorry Robby, I missed this until today!  The scene where the wasp is sealing the couple up in the hive scared the hell out of me when I was a kid.  smile

Re: First men in the moon

You are a much more awesome nerd than me.  I specifically went out and rented this movie and had just watched it because poor Robby had no fellow nerds to love this movie with.  At first I thought I had missed something, but then I remembered Mysterious Island had wasps....Still a nerd.  My nerd was just fresher nerd than yours this time.

Re: First men in the moon

Hi Robby, I know I’m a little late to the party, but as you know, I’m new here. Anyway, I LOVEDthat movie as a kid, and I still do. Once in a blue moon, it’ll come on TV, or I’ll run across it somewhere. Its so fun to watch every time I see it.

Re: First men in the moon

Never ever heard about that one which actually surprises me a little bit... Sounds like the kind of movie that should have been on TV in the 70s and 80s every other year. Like „The Time Machine“ (also based on H.G. Wells) by George Pal, that was one of my favorite childhood movies.

Re: First men in the moon

The George Pal version of the Time Machine is still one of my favorites.  I hated the remake though.

Re: First men in the moon

I loved that one too, but The Eloi scared the hell out of me as a kid...OK, they still do ; )

Re: First men in the moon

Michael, for me it was the Morlocks that lived underground that scared me. I hated the glowing eyes in the darkness of the underground machine works.
Especially the one that decomposed with the time laps photography when he accidentally went into the future a little.

Oh yeah Ron, I remember that! That was awesome, especially for the time. I really have to watch that again.
