Topic: Our first 20 days: Lesson 1 = 06/11/2017 to 07/01/2017

Our first combination.  We will be doing the FIRST 5 CRACKS ONLY in this video.  Over the next 20 days, this is what we will be learning.  Please make sure to reference any prior cracks in the 10/10 challenge section if you need help the switching hands part can be found over there as well.   GOOD LUCK!

I did the practice for this today and it's not nearly as smooth as I want it to be.
I posted in the other thread but I'll re-post it here.

Re: Our first 20 days: Lesson 1 = 06/11/2017 to 07/01/2017

I need to learn the forward flick and have been doing that for the last 2 days.  This crack is really difficult for me.  I had one-on-one practice with Robby in person on this exact thing and still can't do it, so like I said in the beginning, if you need to go back and practice a basic, go back and practice a basic.

As a homeschool mom, I am all about learning at your own pace on your own terms.  This is a major reason why I homeschool.  I absolutely support the same application here in the training. The information isn't going anywhere.

Like I told a foreman one time," I only have two speeds. If this one is not fast enough, your sure not going to like the second one."

Learning at your own speed is super.
Thanks Jessie.

Just like Ron, I've posted yesterdays video in the 10/10 thread and therefore I'll repost it here as well:

Jessie, about the forward flick: If you can do the opposite horizontal crack, you can slowly work your way up to the vertical plane (this method helped me to develop a feeling for this crack).

Happy cracking everyone!

All the best

Here's my first contribution, just before I go out to a jam session smile. I've noticed that my elbow comes very close in to my body when I do the underhand flick, need to work on that.

Matt, that's looking very nice.
Good rhythm.
Thanks for sharing the video.

Matt, turn in your body a bit more when you go into the crossover.
Aside of that - veeery good!

Re: Our first 20 days: Lesson 1 = 06/11/2017 to 07/01/2017

Matt, my compliments to your video!

Your technique is very fluid and accurate. I aslo like the fact that your pefromance didn't change after you've changed your position and relocated your camera - very good job!

Yesterdays practice fealt better compared to my first practice. I've focused on the fast figure 8 and the crossover by practicing them seperatly before I started my 20 minute combo practice. the extra effrot seems to have paid off smile
Today's weather is very hot in my area, therfore I've decided to practice in the evening.

All the best

Re: Our first 20 days: Lesson 1 = 06/11/2017 to 07/01/2017

Today's practice seems to have me at a plateau.
It's not better than yesterday, but it's not worse.
I think that's progress. smile

Congratualtions Ron, that's definetly a progress smile !

Yestedays practice has been good. I haven't made a huge progress compared to the day before but I've managed to feel more secure doing the crossover (changing from circus crack to the crossover has always been difficult for me to do).

All the best

Thanks folks, it's very encouraging to hear you say that smile. Thanks for the tip about turning my body, Robby, I'll work on that when I get back this evening

Oh my, you guys are doing a good job.

Here's my first video. Next time I'll also make a side view, I noticed this routine needs a side view.

I'll also work on making it more "graceful" the next time.

Nice job Sven.
Doing it in such a limited space is difficult.
Cool little vic on the ending.

Re: Our first 20 days: Lesson 1 = 06/11/2017 to 07/01/2017

That's a good start, Sven. Do remember to try and keep the whip moving in a flat plane. (It might be helpful to attend carefully to the position of your elbow....)

Any criticisms of my posture/movements welcome ^_^ This was done with my 8ft 20 plait bullwhip.

Re: Our first 20 days: Lesson 1 = 06/11/2017 to 07/01/2017

Thank you Ron and Mr. Robert

Mr. Robert, I'll keep an eye out for my elbow and tell it to behave in the next practice.
I see what you mean about keeping the whip in one plane. It bounces all around the place.

I really hope I'm doing something wrong and it's not an error in the construction of the whip.

Re: Our first 20 days: Lesson 1 = 06/11/2017 to 07/01/2017

Sparky, that whip does move beautifully! And I think you do this five-crack maneuver pretty well. However, on the second of the five cracks, the whip seems to go sideways a bit (i.e. out of the 'clock-face' plane) - though this may be just the angle of the camera.

Re: Our first 20 days: Lesson 1 = 06/11/2017 to 07/01/2017

Sparky, it all looks very smooth.
I think Mr. Robert's right about the second of the five cracks being off plane a little.
Good job.

Re: Our first 20 days: Lesson 1 = 06/11/2017 to 07/01/2017

Looking good Sven and Sparky both smile.

Sven, I might suggest making a bigger motion in between the fourth and fifth cracks: you finish the cattleman's, then pause slightly, then try to do the flick by forcing it in a snap of the wrist. Try doing the cattleman's then allowing your arm to keep moving in a big circle, until it ends up at ball-throwing height at your head, then flick.

Brandon, the only thing I noticed was that on the second crack of your figure eight you bring your arm back very far and almost horizontally. Maybe try a motion where you do more of a loop, going up and around rather than straight back?
