Re: The timing excrcise drill from 4/19/2017 to 4/28/2017

You're more than welcome! But there is a little delay. Today it was raining and partly snowing. So I couldn't get out to do the shooting. And before someone says: But Robby - you said that neither snow nor rain should be an excuse not to go out and practice...! Yep. I did. I have no problem with rain and water, nor does the whip. The problem is, that the cameras don't like water too much... smile So I have to wait for better weather. At least no rain. But - I'll be there!

Robby, wow snow even.
It's quite the opposite here today.
Right now it's windy and very very hot.
Thermometer outside is showing 105f.

I can't wait to see what the Captain Doctor has in store. smile

Robby, Take good care of those cameras, that's how we all get to see you!!!

I don't think it would hurt me to keep practicing this right here!

Re: The timing excrcise drill from 4/19/2017 to 4/28/2017

Robby, thank you very much for making the excercise video for us !!!

My biggest issue with this drill is that I seem to put to little energy into the "flicking" motion. The thong tends to loose momentum before it has reached the position which is shown in Robby's video. As soon as I try to use more energy on the flicking motion, it feels like I'm overpowering the entire drill. That's why I've used the same "arm swinging motion" which I have used on the coachmans crack to keep the momentum going.

All the best
Ben

Ben, that's what I ended up doing as well.
To me it's just like the coachman's crack but in front of you in stead of on the side.
It's the only way I could get to halfway work.

Here we go - promised is promised and not broken  smile      https://youtu.be/JLah9iRssOY    I deeply apologize for the bad sound quality. It's a huge problem, I know. But I will try to make it better next time!

There's a point in the video which is important, I think. At this point, there are only three folks left, who are participating. Is the whole thing that boring and annoying? Charlie (Lindfield) had his issues about making this a closed event. It's open, and I don't see him. To be honest - the whole thing becomes really a bit annoying. To me.

I won't punish those who are interested and participate, but I see no more sense in making all this available for everybody.

Thank you Robby.
I can totally see what you were demonstrating about when I raise my hand successively at each throw.
I will work on this.

Even  a little bit is advantageous than nothing at all.
This is the whole premise of the 10/10 challenge. Practice a little bit every day no matter what crack or drill is being featured and you will improve. It's impossible not to.

I too can't understand why people don't take advantage of this.
The price..... is just one's time. The more one puts into it the more is gained.

The new challenge thread will be posted shortly for the "Slow Snap" drill.

Again, thank you Robby for helping us with this.

Ron

P.S. I could hear you very well and the noise especially the clock kinds of adds a little humor into it and you handle the annoyance very nicely. smile

Re: The timing excrcise drill from 4/19/2017 to 4/28/2017

Thank you very much Robby! Thank you for the time you took to make that video.

You made it so clear for me. I though it was easy to adjust timing big_smile, but it's not. However, that's why I'm here, to learn.
I think I will continue practicing this move every now and then when I go outside for the next challenges.

I think the clocktower and the guys working in the street have it in for you. I feel both sorry for you and a bit entertained, because of the way you handled the situation. I understand it must be frustrated.

Well, I'm off outside to practice some more. It's getting too dark for a video, I'll save that for the next week of practice.

Re: The timing excrcise drill from 4/19/2017 to 4/28/2017

Ron and Sven... Thank you for your kind words. I'm happy if you find the vid helpful. You know, YouTube is filled to the brim with "Crack it loud and impressive". But I can't see any instructions and/or advice for developing sense and timing. The next one - the slow snap - looks very easy. In fact it will teach you to control the power you put into the whip itself. I know exactly what will happen to the few who will start to practice this. By the way... This is a great exercise to do indoors.

And it will be last video I'm making publicly. I can see now, that WB is filled with masters in the art of whip handling. They don't need my humble advice and experience... (Yep, this was ironic). But those who are patient and interested enough to take those little steps I'm offering, will be good and solid whip crackers. Not masters like the other ones, of course (yep. Irony. Again). But they will have a total different kind of foundation. That was not ironic.

Okay, good luck and go on practicing!  smile

Re: The timing excrcise drill from 4/19/2017 to 4/28/2017

Robby that's exactly what's missing, sense and timing with the whip.  Every practice helps, but learning to feel the whip and speak its language fluently is something entirely different than learning a new crack- especially a loud one big_smile

For some reason my phone won't play this video today.  Next time I'm in town I will take my laptop so I can watch this one.  Thank you very much for making the video.

Hey Robby, I'm sure I do not speak for myself when I say the people who participate in these challenges and exercises really do appreciate sharing your knowledge, taking the time and making the effort to make these videos.
These exercises you have shown us are the kind of intricate training methods I have been looking forward to, besides the actual whip techniques.  It is kind of like learning the mechanics of how to kick or punch properly before delving into certain striking techniques in martial arts.
I hope more people will get involved and further justify your continuation with these exercises, to improve and gain correct technique for our whip cracking.
I have found these challenges very essential and motivating for myself.  These exercises are the cherry on the top smile
Thank you so much!

Robby

I haven't been participating due to ether having my hands full during my free time with ether revising or house work, or it's been raining, and to be honest I've been trying to figure out the un-juggly* attitude regarding the videos/the 10/10 challenge. It baffles me that you would put a how-to style video on the forum, then say that you don't want 'just anyone' to watch it, and then to point out that only 3 people are participating. Is the point of the video to help people or not, because if it is to help people it really shouldn't matter that only 3 people are participating at the moment because it's not 'out there' and has the potential to help others down the line. If they was paying you for one-to-one or specialised lessons and non-paying people got hold of those video then I would understand that it wasn't fair on the people paying. If you want more people to participate in the 10/10 challenge making people jump through hoops to join in isn't going to make people feel like they are going to want to join in.

Also maybe there is only 3 people who knew that they could commit to doing it for 3 days, the impression I get from the 10/10 challenge is "if you can't commit, don't bother trying", now I have all evening to post on forums, but I don't have all day to crack whips, and the time I do have could be filled with a hundred and one other things.

* Juggly people are the nicest, kindest, and friendliest people I've ever met. If you want to know how to do something they will help you to the bet of their abilities, because sharing and helping makes the community better.

Re: The timing excrcise drill from 4/19/2017 to 4/28/2017

Charlie, a price is paid. A precious price.
The price is.......time.
There are no hoops.

If you really feel that way, then don't do it.
Pretty simple right?

Re: The timing excrcise drill from 4/19/2017 to 4/28/2017

Hi Charlie.
We all have commitments with our day to day lives, of course it is not always possible to make a solid input, however I think you may have been under a misapprehension of what Robby may have said about participating in the challenge.  There really are no hoops to jump through, only the will, and by way of demonstration, joining in.
The 10/10 Challenge is an in-forum participation event to my understanding.  I believe this is what Robby meant by "not just anyone". 10 /10 means 10 minutes for 10 days, which I think at risk of generalising, is an achievable target given the proper time management, but not for everyone perhaps.
I also have a fulltime job and responsibilities myself.  I do sacrifice a bit of time with my family for my whip cracking, luckily for me I manage to be able to intertwine my whip practice with exercising / walking my dog so it is not too noticable.
My feeling is if you really want to learn something you have to put the effort and time in to learn and practice it, which I do during weekends, or when I can. It really is that simple.
Of course if more immediate and pressing matters take precedence, then so be it, Noone here will judge you for that.

During night time or rainy days there is always "the stick of death" to fall back on, to practice the hand and wrist movements.
Give it a try and join in mate smile

Somebody wants something bad enough they will work for it.

This isn't a normal internet "community" either....

I don't mean to sound unfriendly in the slightest, Charlie, but this is Robby's house he has built over the last several years and each of us are damn lucky to get to take part.  I've had that privilege and pleasure to be part of The Community for two years.

Robby asks very little of all of us for what we have access to in return.

Take part, regularly, to have access to the rest of the videos.  Or don't.

WB works on the same spirit:
Take part, plug into the community.  Build friendships.  Be interested in what's going on.
Or don't.

It's ok to have differing opinions, we are all adults and can get along even if we see things differently-
But that's because of the spirit behind it all.
A caring heart-
Respect for others.
Courtesy.

Robby has shown his character to us time and again.  A kind and generous, respectful and highly knowledgable person. A man of integrity.
He may post videos for whoever he likes.  It's his house.  However he likes, and it is fair.

My opinion, take it or leave it,
Just good for thought.

Re: The timing excrcise drill from 4/19/2017 to 4/28/2017

This has been said many times.  Here is the last time: This is not for the public.  This is not for just anyone to walk in and take.  You have to ask to join and you have to agree to the rules set forth before you apply.  Robby has every right to hold us accountable.  We are students and we agreed to work to learn when we applied to become members.  We all work and have lives.  It was made clear that this was not just a place you showed up and took what you wanted.  Robby spent several thousand of dollars producing videos for whip cracking, nunchaku, and self defense, all of which you can pay for.  What would publishing exactly what is on those videos he sells for free do for him?  The public is welcome to buy the videos.  WE members of WB are family, and even friends.  When a person becomes a full member, they have proven that they want to put in the effort.  Robby is nice enough to share.  That's it.

You want to learn, than learn.  Don't bitch about accessibility for the sake of others.  It's not about others.  YOU are here.  Hungry?  Then sit your ass down and eat.  Not hungry?  Then get out of my chair.  Don't sit there in front of the food and bitch because you have to take the lid off the pot.

Charlie,

thank you for your thoughts. But when I read your posts - especially the hoop jump thingie - I get the impression that you don't like it here too much. The time you spent posting that you don't like the way I handle things here, you could have use the time to practice indoors. There's a video on how to practice indoors without a whip, by the way. You posted about a lot of things. But the only thing about whips are your complaints about me expecting the folks to participate.

There are two members who gave you a welcome in the guestbook - Mortensen at the 22nd and Ben at the 26th. Didn't notice, hm? Charlie, allow me to be honest on this. I don't think that you fit in here. Your way of posting is more the typical "Facebook style". Please ask yourself, if you really like to be here. Ask yourself, if you like to contribute, okay?

I'm not sure what happened there.  He seemed to walk in with an attitude.   I don't understand why people are handed something they want, but instead of taking it, they bitch about how it's delivered to them.

I am waiting for word from the boss, but I am thinking it might be easier on him if we set up an email list of people participating and we can send the link automatically when he uploads.  If anyone wants to come in on the action when they are ready, they can just request to be on the mailing list?  I personally think the 10/10 has done really well and there are more participating than we think.  We have had a lot of challenge threads fizzle out.  I want to give Ron a big pat on the back for keeping this going for us.  He has been awesome.  Thank you Ron, so much.
