Hayes, that is a cow whip by any standard.
The handle is awesome.
I would like to see some close ups of it.

" Fun to practice with." is the key phrase. That's what it all about.
Very nicely done.

Hayes, it all goes together very well.
Nice taper and the handle looks very sleek.
Good job.

How does it crack?

Nice work Hayes.

I wish I could have a workshop like that.
I would opt for a metal lathe and mill which I could use either way, either metal or wood. But that's just my personal wish list kinda thing.

Being a machinist kind of shapes my way of thinking too.

Nicely done.

Referring to 1/3s, for me, is just that. I bind, as you suggested, closer / tighter at the handle end, and further apart / looser as it goes along to the tip. I actually do that in layers. I will divide the length to be bound by..... you guessed it, 3. One pass to 1/3, and back up. The next pass to ...

That's a very good start, Hayes. With the binding, I try to do it incrementally with the closer binding towards the handle and gradually spacing out the binding the further down the belly you go. I do just about everything in 3s or 1/3s, with binding, and overlay. I don't have an exact scientific or...

Great looking whips, Mark.

I love color of the brown one. The handle almost looks like plaited wood strands.
It stands to reason that with more support comes more "spring" to help move the energy down the thong with less energy from the thrower.

Both of them are very nicely done.

The whip, love the taper on this.

The cuff, this is very cool. I had no idea you could work metal.
Very nicely done.

Nice job. It looks like it will crack well.
Is the handle bare wood? It might age nicely and darken with hand oils for an antique patina.

I too have a problem with photos not representing the actual taper of a whip.

The shadows play havoc with the eyes, and makes it look uneven and even places where hinging is occurring... direct natural lighting helps some.

Rachel, you come by your talents honestly. Multi talented people are so unique. It's like being a modern day Renaissance couple.
I can guarantee they will never be bored.

I love the leather work. It must smell like leather heaven around there.

Very nicely done. Substantial and slow, my kind of whip.
