Thanks Ron. I think this is my second TT core. I'm not sure if I have a true feel for it yet, or if I ever will. I know this one is twisted tighter than the last, however, I'm unsure if it's tight enough. I assume it's another thing you figure out with more experience. I am pretty confidant that onc...

Finally got a chance to restart my whip. I'm still unsure if this is the best way to attach a TT core to the rod, but I haven't had an issue yet. I might put a small piece of finger tape over the transition. https://i.imgur.com/4N2jeAe.jpg?1 TT core. Needs a little trimming and then my favorite part...

Ron and Scott - Yes, turning down the metal rod is a breeze with the mini-lathe. I wish I could have purchased a full size one, but it wasn't/isn't in the budget. I bought this one to play/learn with. I have the wooden heel nearly finished and I'm quite pleased with the final result. It does have a ...

Whip #7
Starting whip #7 and I thought I'd do a build thread. For Whip #7, I'm planning a 7 foot bullwhip. I start with 1/4" steel rod that I turn down at one end. I have a mini lathe that makes this part pretty easy. https://i.imgur.com/xFLY9wO.jpg?1 Next I'll attach a TT core, for the second time. I ...

As predicted/suggested the new heel turned out much better. After attempting multiple different knots, I did have to build it up a little with hockey tape to get one to work. I now know what size and shape to start with next time. Just needs some wax and a cracker and I'm calling it done. Thanks aga...

Thank you for the kind words. At this point, I'm calling it a successful failure. It looks nice, but it's too big for my hands as well. I think my excitement of doing something different clouded my judgement a bit. Different still needs to be functional. So, I'm happy this was my first whip that has...

Mark, thanks for the links. I went with one similar to your first link, although I used a different tutorial. I'm still cleaning it up, but it looks like it is going to work fine. Ron, going bigger was a last result. If I had it to do over I would have went with a smaller ball, but I used what I had...

Thank you for the kind words everyone. Sven, I've had to make small adjustments before, but this one was the worst. It was doubly disappointing because I actually to the time to draw this one out and checked my math a couple different times. First attempt at the knot was not successful. I think it i...

My whips and current project
I haven't been the best at taking pictures of my earlier work. The majority have been given as gifts, wall hanging decoration, or torn back apart because I wasn't happy with the outcome. Below is one I remembered to take a picture of when I was at my buddies house. http://i.imgur.com/w1F7dxH.jpg I d...

I know I'm bringing back an old thread, but on the topic of TV series, the Selina Kyle character on Gotham uses a whip in a couple episodes. My google-fu is weak at the moment, but I think it is season 4 ep 2 or 3, which can be found on Netflix. Again with the weak Fu, but I believe the whip was mad...
