Here are the first few teasers of Ben's whip. I literally only got a chance to hold it enough to place it in the light box and snap a couple photos, as I'm at work still. Right off the bat though, I love the weight and balance of it. The taper starts immediately at the handle section, and finishes a...

Jyri, I'll be interested as well. The stock whip process Nick put up last year has actually worked well with some modifications, but a stock whip and bullwhip are different beasts altogether.

Thanks Mark for the feedback and video! Any technical advise for the plaiting, or is it just a matter of practice at this point?

Thanks Rachel and Ron. I think it cracks easy with the longer and owner motions. It is shot loaded and a little on the heavier side, but due to turn handle wood and size is still balanced 50/50, with maybe a little nose bias.

Hey all, just getting back from Boston, but wanted to slip this in here if it's not too late as my donation whip: 7ft 14 plait cow whip with twisted taper tip, Spanish ring knot accents created from dropped strands on overlay, and turned mahagony handle and all waxed. Thanks!! https://i.imgur.com/FN...

Roy that looks great! The handle is a nice piece of hickory as well. Normally I don't even see that much grain in it. Was this from the heartwood or close to it?

Robert, thanks for the share. Dogs are amazing and we don't deserve them. My girlfriend was on a week vacation this past week and just came home yesterday, so I've been dog sitting and got some quality alone time with him. My girlfriend swears sometimes I'm just dating her for the dog

Wolfgang, I feel a 6foot produces the most noise to me. I believe in my case it is due to physics: A shorter whip, although potentially closer to ear, has less mass and less force. A longer whip takes more energy and I can not be as efficient with my energy transfer. A 6 foot just seems to be the be...

Flemming, based on my limited knowledge it looks close! As a teacher, I feel a great method is to make everything a progression. If I were to break it down it might look like something as follows: 1: Bring the whip back 5-10 times, doing nothing more than trying to get the thong to make at least a f...

Jyri, I like the color scheme quite a bit. I'm sure it'll look good when you're done. Also, you should do a slow-mo of the little underhand move you did at 0:21 that caught my attention!

Here is the thong, which just needs wax. It is a 5ft 12 plait with 2 keeper loops tapering down to a twisted taper point. I've been changing up how I do falls as you might notice, and put the loop on the cracker end for easy changes, and use a "cheater" blood knot between the fall and the ...

Andrew, you peaked my curiosity. Here's the link to the exact product I use and how they market it. You'll have to tell me what you think :)

I started my potential donation whip today (assuming it comes out the way I want) My plan is a 5-6ft stock whip. I gave a range in case I want to modify it slightly as I plait the overlay and how I want it to feel. The core is a single 3' piece of 750 paracord with 18 inches of shot load. The shot i...

Jyri, that makes sense to me!

I'm leaning towards a cow whip or stock whip with a mahogany handle

Jyri, I'll look forward to this build. I have yet to decide on a stockwhip, bullwhip, or cow whip. Anybody with a preference let me know!
